Dealing with stressful work situations
5 januari 2022
Everyone experiences stress at some point. But what if the stress becomes too much? Last week was the 'stress at work week' where we emphasised stress awareness for both employees and employers.
What is work stress?
As an employee, you are there for others and make demands on yourself. This can sometimes feel like pressure. Don't panic, being tired once in a while after a hard day's work is not a disaster and can even give you a feeling of satisfaction. Stress sometimes helps you to perform better.
But if you ignore your own wishes and needs for a long time, this can lead to loss of energy and pleasure, overload and eventually burn-out! Therefore, it is important that you have an eye for yourself and that you indicate in time when the pressure becomes too much.
Start by taking good care of yourself
Make sure you feel good about yourself and undertake activities that give you energy! Here are a few tips to combat work-related stress:
- Ensure rest and regularity
- Keep your work and private life separate
- Ensure sufficient relaxation
- Keep moving! (Sports, walking, cycling, fitness, etc.)
- Make sure you get a good night's sleep
- Eat healthily (a bit of sweets now and then is not a bad thing).
